What we do
Whether you're a high school student or lifelong learner, seeking college prep or corporate training, we have something for you.

College prep
Applying to college is hard. There are so many moving pieces. We have more than twenty years of college teaching between us. Let us help get you where you want to be.

Tutoring
Tough assignment? Struggling to make grades meet? Hitting a wall with focus? No job too big, no job too small - we can help you meet your goals and sustain your success.

Adult learning
Looking to learn something new? Seeking a creative workshop-with-a-twist for teambuilding? Individual, group, or business, let's talk about what we can do for you.
College prep
College prep is big business nowadays. Huge companies with shiny track records do college applications and test prep well. What sets us apart?
We use what we call our "sustained success" model. We want to help you jump through the hoops and meet your goals. We will also equip you with what you need to meet the challenges of college once you get there. The best college applicant is the person that assessors can most easily imagine being at their college.
SAT/ACT® prep, application prep, interview prep, college readiness - we have 20+ years of college teaching experience. We can help.
The college admissions process can be confusing and overwhelming. We support parents throughout the process and guide students towards clarity and exceptional quality in their application materials.
We offer individualized attention that can't be beat at a big higher ed consultancy firm with high case loads. Our small team also offers better value for students and parents due to our lower overhead costs.
Tutoring
Maybe there's a crucial test coming up. Perhaps there's an AP class to take, but the basics are fuzzy. Maybe a specific grade seems just out of reach. Perhaps something that seems like it should be straightforward just...isn't.
Whatever your needs, we can help you. We use a wide range of pedagogies and training strategies, fine-tuned in the classroom and the seminar, to equip students with fresh confidence and academic improvement.
We offer a wide variety of tutoring services for high-schoolers, college students, and adult learners who seek informal or formal education after serving in the military or post-retirement.
Adult learning
1 / Lifelong learning
Maybe you're an adult learner who needs a helping hand? Or someone who wants to pick up something new? Meeting learning goals can be challenging due to our busy lives and the complexities of organizational dynamics and focus retention. We love learning new things too. Whatever your needs, we can help.
2 / Small group seminars
We often lead small group workshops or seminar series. Whether a religious organization, a home learning context, a retirement community, or a group of enthusiasts, if you're seeking an expert to talk about something interesting, we have something for you.
3 / For businesses
Cognitive training and collective learning can be one of the fastest and most effective ways to promote workplace synergy. A culture of learning is also a fast track to an innovative workplace. We can help. Thanks to extensive experience in curricular design and teaching adults (both in person and eLearning), we can develop the learning strategy that works best for you and/or your team.

Who we are
TwoProfs is an academic coaching service in the Shenandoah Valley, VA servicing Staunton, Verona, Waynesboro, Lexington, Augusta County and Rockbridge County, VA. TwoProfs was founded in late 2025 by Dr. Matt Chalmers and Dr. Kami Atanasova, career educators with more than two decades of experience in Higher Ed. We've researched, taught, and mentored students at Haverford College, Northwestern University, UPenn, Virginia Tech, and Washington & Lee, in-person and online. We've seen first-hand what it takes to thrive and learn. So, our "sustained success" model sets learners up to meet their goals as well as meet challenges they haven't met yet. Whether prepping for a test or improving class performance, building a college admission profile, working towards improving your SAT/ACT® scores, developing skills crucial for graduate and professional school, or just learning something new, we can help. No one-size-fits-all. No learning goal too big or too small.

About Matt
My name is Matt Chalmers, Ph.D
Born in Manchester (UK), I studied at Oxford (BA, MPhil) and then the University of Pennsylvania. I'm a published historian of the Mediterranean and Middle East, and an expert in the study of religions. I've taught at Northwestern, Virginia Tech, and Washington & Lee.Recently: I flew to Norway to present my research on Samaritans. For the interested: I also wrote the script for this YouTube collaboration which shows a bit of what I do. I'm a constant learner, currently U.S. history, chess, and how to best make Lego trains with our three-year old daughter.

About Kami
My name is Kameliya "Kami" Atanasova, Ph.D
I came to the U.S. as an international student from Bulgaria to attend Mount Holyoke College on a near 100% scholarship. My time as a college student in such a welcoming and nurturing environment shaped my life goal to be an educator. I obtained my Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania in 2016 and have taught at Haverford College, and Washington & Lee. I have studied and lived in Egypt, Morocco, Turkey, and Germany and just recently (2025) published my first academic book. What I love most about working with students is the questions they bring to what they study and helping them navigate complex projects from start to finish. I specially like working on problem solving skills, and reading and writing. My former students have been successfully accepted into a variety of graduate and professional programs in the U.S. and the U.K. Recently, I have started learning how to knit and I am also a budding amateur astronomer.
